Constantine is the adaptation of DC/Vertigo's Hellblazer comic. Thus, if you're used to seeing John on Legends of Tomorrow, you'll find that this version of John deals with those darker topics in far more depth. Here is a general list of things that CAN come up in threading with John, especially if it is in regards to his history or canon.

She would probably sense most basic things, but she's such a baby witch it's not even funny, so HONESTLY it wouldn't be that hard to use anything on her. Not really anything when it comes to John — I'm way too used to his comics and how the material uses the various topics, so anything that would be a no for me in a non-Hellblazer context really doesn't bug me with John.

WHAT MAGIC DOES NOT NATURALLY WORK ON YOUR CHARACTER? Everything works with regular expectations, but Gil can also replenish his own strength to some degree, so that might come across as a false positive to affect him. WHAT SUBJECTS ARE A HARD "NO" FOR YOUR CHARACTER/YOU? Nothing in particular, but warnings if something extra hard is gonna come up will be appreciated!
As an aside as well, if John can see through illusionary magic he'll be able to see Gil's true form beneath his human Mask!

CAN JOHN USE MAGIC AROUND/ON YOUR CHARACTER?: Go for it! He will be amazed and overjoyed. WHAT MAGIC DOES NOT NATURALLY WORK ON YOUR CHARACTER? It all works. Like Amanda, Dirk is an 'anomaly' in his canon and comes with powers of his own (ones he can't control, never helps him, and he generally just goes along with them). WHAT SUBJECTS ARE A HARD "NO" FOR YOUR CHARACTER/YOU? As a player, I'm good with any/all darker aspects of canon. I love that shit. Dirk has a bit of a dark past oh his own, so any mention of using him for an 'experiment' will make him extremely uncomfortable and possibly shut down the whole conversation. Restraints via magic might also have the same effect. OOCly, I'm fine with threading something like this out for cr possibilities, negative or positive.
